Your home will need a new garage door installation at one point and you may be lost on where to start. Once you find a qualified garage door expert there will be many decisions you have to make. You will need to choose between single and double garage doors as well as garage door styles, sizes, openers, and screens. Once all of these decisions have been made the garage door installation can begin.
Step One
The garage door installer will first release the tension in the torsion springs. This will require clamping locking pliers to the torsion spring shaft and wedging the pliers against the header wall found above the door.
Step Two
At this part of the garage door installation process, once the torsion springs are loosened, the existing opener and door will be disconnected. The panels will then be removed one by one starting with the top panel.
If there is glass you will need to be cautious. You will also need to disconnect the track from the doorframe.
Step Three
You will be able to begin installing the new garage door once the old one has been completely removed. You can now install each of the new door panels..
Step Four
The next step in the garage door installation process is to secure the hinges and install the track. You can do this from inside the garage. You will also need to attach the door cable to the hook before attaching the bottom bracket to the wall.
Step Five
Next up is attaching the spring assembly to the track. After assemblage, the door will then be attached to the ceiling bracket.
Step Six
You will then need to bolt the tracks together. But do not tighten the bolts until you know the door fits properly.
Step Seven
You can now install the spring anchors to the spring and then attach the spring locking cone. Next, the two springs will need to be bolted to the main header bracket.
Step Eight
Next in the garage door installation process is to install the torsion rod and pulleys. The torsion rod will slide into the holes on the side header brackets. Once secured it can be attached to the pulleys that are found on each end of the rod.
Step Nine
Next, the cables will be attached to the pulley wheel on both sides. It will need to be tightened securely. Some advice will be to fasten a pair of locking pliers to the rod to prevent it from turning during step ten.
Step Ten
The final step in the installation process is to tighten the springs. A trick is to draw a chalk line across the springs so you can keep track of how many times you turn the springs. Once the tension is reached you will need to tighten the bolts in the anchor and remove the pliers from the tension rod.
