Your garage door may need to be repaired or replaced at some point during your homeownership journey. Your garage door has many moving parts and if even one is down the entire system can go down as well. It may be due to damage or from age. After all, every machine can and will eventually give out and require some repairs.
If you notice any of the five signs below, it is advised that you leave emergency garage door repair to a professional.
1. The Garage Door Will not Open or Close
The biggest sign that you may need an emergency garage door repair is if the door will not open or close. However, you should first check to see if it is a result of the garage door malfunctioning.
It’s possible that the batteries in the remote are dead. Troubleshoot by checking other door remotes as well as the wall unit. If it is not the batteries, check that the door is connected to power.
If you have done all of the troubleshooting and your garage door still does not open you will need an emergency garage door repair.
2. Your Door Works Intermittently
Another big sign that you may be in need of an emergency garage door repair is if the garage door works when it wants to and not when you need it to. The main cause of a garage door working intermittently is that there is a wiring issue.
It is important to get this issue fixed immediately as it can become a dangerous situation. If the door is not responding to your commands it can cause damage to your vehicle and even harm to your family.
3. The Door Opens and Then Reverses
This issue can sometimes be easily fixed and other times it requires an emergency garage door repair. When a garage door opens and then reverses this can mean there is a problem with the photo safety eyes. These are the sensors that hover right above the floor and are positioned facing each other.
Their purpose is to stop the garage door from closing when something is in its path. If it detects an object or person it will begin to reverse. If it is doing so without any object in the way this may mean a repair is due.
4. Unusual Noises
An easy sign to look for that can mean big trouble is afoot is when the garage door is making unusual noises. When you hear strange sounds coming from the garage door or the garage door opener you should investigate further to determine what is causing the noises.
5. Older model
Older garage doors and openers will need to be replaced or repaired simply due to wear and tear. It is important to keep up with your garage maintenance. If you notice you are having consistent issues with your garage door and it is older than 15 years, you may need a replacement.
