You may have a garage door remote that you need to integrate with your garage door and your home. In other cases, you may have just gotten a new car and need to integrate it with your garage door remote. Depending on the type of remote garage door opener you have, the process can vary. Sometimes the integration works on the first go-around while other times you may need to do some digging.
The Basics
There are several ways to open a garage door. Some garage doors can be opened manually while others can use a remote garage door opener. You can have a garage door opener installed at the same time as you have your garage door installed. You can also add the upgrade at a later date although this can be more of a hassle for the homeowner.
Logic Board
The logic board is found on the backside of the garage door opener and it is essentially the brain of the operation. Modern garage door openers have multi-code machines, which means they use several signals each time the button on the garage door remote is pressed. This feature is intended to keep you secure by ensuring it is harder for code-grabbers to infiltrate.
Vehicles and Garage Door Remotes
The biggest feature of having a remote garage door opener is the ability to open the garage from the comfort of your car. After you have installed and programmed the garage door opener you will then need to signify to your garage door opener that there is a remote in your vehicle that needs to be connected.
There are three steps that should get your garage door remote programmed in no time:
- Press the learn button on the back of the garage door opener. Do not hold the button, just simply press it firmly.
- Press the remote control button and hold it for a moment. For cars with a built-in button, you may need assistance from another person.
- The machine will then accept the code and you should then see a flash and hear a click.
If this does not work, you may need to reprogram everything from the beginning. This is for a standard remote garage door opener so your process may vary slightly depending on your garage door.
Smart home and Remote Garage Door Opener
There is a rise in smart homes and with that comes the integration of the garage door opener. You can integrate the two and have an added layer of control and security into your home. Having it integrated into your smart home will allow you to be noticed whether your garage door is open or closed and the status of it. The installation and process will depend heavily on the type of smart home hub you have and the garage door opener.
